Old Fashioned Scale

A few years back, the church asked me if I would be willing to build an old fashioned weight scale, to be used that year for Vacation Bible School.  I build a lot of projects for my church, so this just fell right in line.  I later learned that the intent of the project was to create a bit of low cost competition between the boys and the girls.  Each day, the children would bring in change to put in their side.  Mondays were pennies, Tuesday nickels and so on.  This project is made of wood, thus it responds to humidity, etc. and is not completely accurate.  For that reason, I fabricated and installed some “sliding weights”  on each side so that the scale could be calibrated.  All in all, it was a great project.  If I remember, the girls won!  They had a blast with it and hopefully it will be used for years to come.  Thanks for visiting!
